Not Another Boob Blog

By Emma Lovelock

Welcome to Not Another Boob Blog

My name is Emma Lovelock, I am a 45 year old woman, mother, entrepreneur, daughter, girlfriend and Cancer survivor.

This blog is a record of my journey on this, my second time being given a Breast Cancer diagnosis.

I’m writing it mainly as a cathartic way for me to process everything, but also for anyone who is interested in following my journey along the way.

Last time round I wrote a blog too (https://www.emmasnewboobs.blogspot.com), but didn’t start it until quite a way into my story, and I always wished I’d thought to do it from the start. So this time that’s what I’m doing.

WARNING - It will be raw, I won't be censoring my thoughts or feelings for you. So if you don't want to know all the details you probably won't want to read it.

Sometimes it will be boring - I want to document everything that happens along the way.

Sometimes it will be sad - I'm not going to apologise for making you cry - often I will cry when I write it, then I'll feel better.
Sometimes it will be funny - I will share all the stuff, embarrassing and silly. I'm generally quite an upbeat, happy person anyway so hopefully this will come across in my writing.

All times it will be honest - I don't plan on keeping anything a secret, you'll get my real emotions as I feel them, my thoughts as I think them and I'm sure you'll get some positive energy coming through too.

I’ve documented the first month as well as I can remember it. As I write this, today is actually the day before I get the results of my CT scan and the surgery/treatment plan.

Enjoy, comment, share but most of all stay positive with me.

Emma x

Four months to the day after I found the lump, I returned to the hospital for the results of my second surgery. It was a long wait, and the stakes were high - what came next would change everything.

This isn’t glamorous, but it’s important. Morphine will almost certainly mess with your digestion, and post-surgery constipation is no joke. Here’s what happened, what helped, and why no one should be afraid to talk about it.

On the day of my second surgery, all eyes were on Amber’s GCSE results - and she smashed it. The op went smoothly, I came home feeling surprisingly fine (again!), and the cherry on top? My stubborn nipple scab finally dropped off. All in all, a good day.

With my car still in the garage and clearance to drive again, I hired a manual and made the most of every minute - from classes and workshops to a cheeky Tesla test drive. After weeks of healing, this little window of freedom was everything I needed.

Three weeks post-surgery, I found myself back at the hospital for results - and facing another unexpected operation. While the news was frustrating, there were wins too: the dressing came off, I can drive again, and I even made it to a presentation workshop in Birmingham beforehand.

I left home for the first time since surgery to attend two days of business workshops in Birmingham. Thanks to my brilliant dad and some careful planning (and painkillers), I managed the trip, paced myself - and felt a little more like me again.
